Trust GPS

Happy Passover from Kim Campbell and CareLiving.org

Have you ever had a nagging feeling that your GPS was taking you the wrong way? You keep telling yourself, “just trust Google Maps!” but something feels wrong and you begin to suspect that you’re lost. When this happens to me, I often stop listening and take my own route, only to hear that all-knowing voice try its best to continue helping despite my defiance:

Recalculating. Recalculating. Recalculating.

I like to think I’m a woman of momentum – especially when driving. I want to avoid anything that slows me down! Construction, traffic, accidents…
But momentum is only good when you’re going the right direction.

Tonight is the first night of Passover. Jewish families all over the world will be having their Seder meals to commemorate how God delivered them from slavery and brought them out of Egypt more than 3,000 years ago.

Riding the the momentum of holy signs and wonders, the Jews set their destination for the promised land. They walked through the Red Sea on dry land, they traveled to Mt. Sinai and eventually received the commandments – but along the way they doubted God and ended up wandering in the wilderness for 40 years as recompense for their lack of faith before finally reaching Canaan.

I must admit, when Glen was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, I doubted God for a while, too.
“Really?”

Are you sure this is the road you want us to take?

I’ve been recalculating, recalculating, recalculating ever since, doing my best to have faith in GPS (God’s Promises in Scripture).

The decade I spent in the wilderness of dementia with Glen taught me to trust God’s direction. Without my faith and His guidance, I would have ended up wandering forever! Now that our journey with Alzheimer’s is over and Glen has gone to be with the Lord, I see a new road ahead of me. I don’t know exactly where it will lead, but I’m trusting Him to guide me, and I hope you will too!

Happy Passover

    I love this Kim! “God’s promises in Scripture” is the perfect GPS! How I wish I referred to them more! I recently watched I’ll Be Me along with my husband Drew. (Drew has an early onset dementia called Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD) along with Progressive Supernuclear Palsy (PSP). He is 62 and I am 56. The film was heartbreaking, inspiring and so well done. Glen’s talent, as well as your children’s, was so amazing, proving that music truly does help on this journey. Your devotion to him and the tour was an inspiration to me. I’m so grateful to have discovered this website after reading about it in the devotional Grace For the Unexpected Journey by Deborah Barr. Thank you for providing needed encouragement even after Glen’s death. I so enjoyed watching him on TV with my family growing up and listening to his albums on my parents stereo. (-;
    Thanks again.-Leslie in Little Rock
